In terms of proposal, the reception changed location to be more central, next to the new waiting room, thus allowing control over the circulation of users and a more optimized service area. The waiting room is located in the same location, however its entrance is close to the service and reception area. The waiting room becomes smaller in terms of area, to allow the creation of two new rooms (boxes) so that clients/patients can have more privacy. This space is centered on the medical office corridor and the elevator, facilitating circulation and access.
In the former reception area, there is now space for a private administrative area with restricted access to the existing archive room, which now has direct access to the technical area. A new waiting room also appears (in the old reception space).
The old office 3 made it possible to create a new reception, a multipurpose room/office for consultation assistants, as well as the creation of two new collection rooms as the old center only had one room.
The new reception includes a counter with two different heights to comply with accessibility standards, thus allowing easy and ergonomic use for people with reduced accessibility.
The clinic only had two recovery rooms, so the intention was to have two more, one of which would be prepared for accessibility. The two new recovery rooms will, therefore, occupy the old staff room, being in the same corridor as the other existing ones and close to the block’s exit.
The accessible recovery room includes specialized equipment, that is, its own sink and non-manual control mixer, vertically folding support bars and has an alarm linked to the alert system. The spatial layout allows a person with reduced mobility to have easy access to equipment (washbasin and toilet, closet and bed) as well as circulation.
The room is in an “open space” with only a curtain used to provide privacy when necessary, but without physical barriers such as doors or walls.
The existing recovery rooms underwent changes to increase the area, the shower trays were removed, as they are not inpatient rooms. The spaces are wider with just the private toilet (with bidet spray) and a washbasin included in a cabinet/wardrobe.
As two more recovery rooms/rooms have been created, there is a need to have a nursing station/control room close to them, which will support the clinic’s activities. This new open space, with just a counter, is located (former nursing room and former cryo room) in the central and at the same time more private area of the clinic and is intended to provide care and technical support for users and at the same time provide control of the movement of people.
Adjacent to the nursing control area, there is the room intended for carrying out analytical studies (collection), which is located in a more private area, but also very close to the waiting area with easier access for people with reduced mobility. (located in the ex collection room).
As the space in the old staff room was used, it had to be relocated to an old waiting room that was little used. In this way, the staff and technical team area was improved logistically. The support sanitary installation no longer belongs to the old office 3 (now with other uses) and starts to support the new staff room. A door from the bathroom was opened directly to the staff room, and the wall of the former office 3 was closed, which is now one of the collection rooms. A pantry area was created with a bench (with lower and upper storage) with a stainless steel bowl and a mixer to support staff meals.
The biology room, adjacent to the new staff room, becomes a management office and an area is removed to allow the creation of a new changing room (dirty clothes/clean clothes) with direct access to the block area, pharmacy, sterilization room and biology cabinet.
The laboratories also undergo changes, as the cryo-preservation room was used for the new nursing area, it is relocated to the entrance of laboratory 1. An antechamber was introduced for this purpose, creating an airtight wall and door. In laboratory 2, some area was removed, so that laboratory 1 would not be reduced, and new accesses were created between them, with new glass openings that make it possible to visualize the spaces between the technicians, as well as so that users can see the operation of the clinic and laboratories, namely, these areas are off-limits to the public.
In the block room (former collection room), the glass area was closed with a new thermally insulated wall, to allow the space to be completely isolated. With a view to creating direct access from the laboratory to this, an HPL sliding door was placed where there previously was a fixed opening. There was also a need to create direct access to the recovery room corridor. Two new doors were installed (a hermetic sliding one at the exit of the block and another semi-watertight opening one to the corridor of the recovery rooms) to create an antechamber due to the separation of the pulsed zone from the non-pulsed zones.
In this way, logistics are improved and services are optimized. A guillotine window was also opened between the block and the sterilization room to facilitate supplies. The window is made of stainless steel and properly prepared for a block room.
In the technical room – warehouse 1 (between recovery rooms) a space was created for a refrigeration room.
In the storage space adjacent to the treatment room, a warehouse 2 was created to create a storage/stock area to make up for the elimination of the existing warehouse next to the old staff room. The space was closed with new insulated walls to allow for more adequate storage of material. This space provides more answers in terms of storage and organization of material.
The treatment room becomes the new biology office.
The new layout of the clinic aims to separate the public area (waiting rooms/reception/offices) from the private part (recovery rooms, block and technical areas for the staff/medical team – such as pharmacy, sterilization room, biology room, changing room and laboratories).
All these changes in spatial terms also reflect changes in technical terms of new electrical installations, HVAC (air conditioning and ducts), plumbing (water and sewage), relocation and changes in terms of medical gases (liquid air project), internet and rede.
Regarding the materials used, the project took into account the use of new homogeneous polyvinyl roll flooring, specific for blocks and laboratories. In the remaining areas, waiting rooms and new recovery rooms in the harvesting rooms, the floors are also made of vinyl but in this case imitating wood to give more comfort to spaces.
The walls of the clinic are all painted with maximum bacterial protection and anti-mold paint, in a light color, except in the laboratories and collection room (block) which are painted with an ultra-matte water-based enamel, 100% acrylic, easy to wash. and resistance to dirt.
